F.A.Q.
WHAT IS THE K.I.D. LIST?
The K.I.D. (Kids In Danger) List is a database of more than 20,000 website Urls (locations). Each Url promotes, encourages, exhibits, defends pedophilia, or is sexually inappropriate that is not dealing with adult material. It is done through either context or content, some as simple as displaying a pedophile logo on their page.
This list has been exhaustively researched, retrieved and verified over many hundreds of hours by two of the leading Child Protection Organizations in Cyberspace: SOC-UM (Safeguarding Our Children - United Mothers http://www.soc-um.com) and CyberAngels Internet Safety Organization (http://www.cyberangels.org), who have joined together on this project in the hopes of increasing child safety online.
The K.I.D. List is the most valuable list any filtering or blocking company or ISP could have when it comes to protecting children online. Many of these Urls are NOT CURRENTLY BLOCKED by the leading filtering products on the market today.
Parents and Teachers will also agree that the K.I.D. List represents the most important collection of sites to consider blocking of any collection on the WWW. We believe this list will have a direct impact on our children's safety both in cyberspace and off-line.
WHAT IS THE CRITERIA FOR INCLUSION IN THE K.I.D. LIST?
The following criteria has been used by SOC-UM and CyberAngels for inclusion in the K.I.D. List:
1) Any Url containing text presenting pedophilia or pedophile behavior in any encouraging, promoting, supporting, praising or defending manner.
2) Any Url containing images presenting pedophilia or pedophile behavior in any encouraging, promoting, supporting, praising or defending manner.
3) Any Url Containing Audio Visual images or sounds presenting pedophilia or pedophile behavior in any encouraging, promoting, supporting, praising or defending manner.
4) Any Url for Forums/Discussion groups offering support, sympathy, and/or encouragment of adult/child sexual activity.
5) Any Url displaying a Logo that depicts that Url or Website as pro-pedophilia, or any text claiming a website to be pro-pedophile, regardless of whether the Url fulfils the criteria listed above or not.
6) Any Url involving a historical, technical or medical discussion that promotes or defends the idea of adult/child sex as a valid or healthy lifestyle choice.
7) Any Url regardless of its own content if it has a Hyperlink to any Url listed above.
The decisions about what Urls satisfy the requirements listed above have been made by Senior Staff of the two participating organizations and represent their opinions alone.
ARE THERE URLS RELATING TO PEDOPHILIA THAT WOULD NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE K.I.D. LIST?
Yes. Urls with technical references, dictionary definitions, encyclopedic summaries, news reports, medical references, magazine articles, legal cases, transcripts or statutes, political, sociological or philosophical discussions that do NOT promote pedophilia as a valid lifestyle, but rather discuss the issues objectively, are NOT part of the P.A. List.
URLS, WEBSITES, DOMAINS AND DIRECTORIES ON WEBSITES ARE CHANGED OR ALTERED FREQUENTLY - IS THE K.I.D. LIST AN ONGOING PROJECT REQUIRING REGULAR UPDATES?
Yes. The first list completed contained 6000 Urls (list now includes over 20,000), but many more thousands of pro-pedophile Urls are currently under investigation. Many of these sites have been reported to Law Enforcement as they contain suspected illegal images of child abuse. The K.I.D. List will be updated regularly with new Urls. Directories and domains do indeed change frequently, especially in the pedophile world, where hosting companies are regularly closing down pedophile Urls created by their customers without their approval, not to mention illegal websites being closed down by Law Enforcement. We make no claim that we can gather all pro-pedophile Urls into one database.
IS THE K.I.D. LIST PUBLIC DOMAIN AND THEREFORE ACCESSIBLE TO ALL?
This list is proprietary. It is copyrighted to SOC-UM and CyberAngels and is available for license for other organizations to use. The list is NOT public domain and no permission is granted at any time to make public any of its contents. It would be irresponsible of us to make this list publicly available.
WHO CAN GAIN ACCESS TO THE K.I.D. LIST?
This database is available to Law Enforcement Agencies worldwide, to Filtering and Blocking Companies, to Child Protection Agencies, to ISPs and to anyone concerned about the proliferation of pedophile networks in cyberspace. Its purpose is to assist parents, teachers and other concerned adults in blocking children from access to the sites which meet the above criteria.
IS THIS CENSORSHIP?
This list was created to empower parents, teachers, filtering companies, and other adults concerned about the safety of children by providing relevant child safety information. This issue is about choice and selection, not about censorship. The decision to block access to these sites is a choice.
HOW DO I FIND OUT IF *MY* WEBSITE IS LISTED ON THE K.I.D. LIST?
If you own the domain you are inquiring about and your email address is listed in your respective Network Information Center as the offical contact for your site, you can send an email to kidlist@soc-um.com and make an inquiry. Please put KIDLIST INQUIRY in the subject line of your email. You will then be notified as to whether your site is on the K.I.D. List.
If you do not own your domain, but rather rent a sub directory as a customer of a larger domain, you will need to contact the officially listed owners of your parent domain and request that they inquire for you. We regret but we are unable to reply to any request not coming from official representatives of domain names.
IF I KNOW OF A URL THAT I THINK SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE K.I.D. LIST, CAN I SEND IT IN?
Yes. Please email the Url or Urls to us with KIDLIST URL as your subject line, together with a brief description of the site. Our team of experts will investigate it. Alternatively both SOC-UM and CyberAngels have a report form on their website where you can do the same thing.
